Organisational Management

Hi readers,

While Hiring an employee we encounter a group of fields under organisation assignment which force us to fill the fields to move further. So before filling those fields a basic understanding of Organisational assignment is of prime importance...

So without wasting much time lets deep dive into the concepts of Organisation Management (OM) an important sub-module of  SAP HR.

So what is Organisation Management??

Organisation Management is the sub module of SAP HCM which enables the organisation to Depict the organisational structure , Analyse the current Organisational plan , Create additional organisational plan and Create effective workflow management.

Organisational objects:

Objects are used to create an Organisational Plan. Listed below are the objects used in organisational plan.

Organisational Unit (O)
Position(S)
Job (C)
Person(P)
Cost Center (K)
Task (T)
Work Center (A)

Using these objects and maintaining relations between these objects we can design the organisation structure. The relationships between two objects creates an hierarchy and depicts the organisational structure.

These are the relationships between different objects of SAP HR.

The first object here is Organisation Unit (O): We can create the organisational structure of the company by relating the organisational units to one other.

The second object key S is used for the object Position. Positions are used to distribute tasks to different positions and to depict the reporting structure of the organisational plan.Positions inherit characteristics from the job.Now the question is what does it mean by inheriting the characteristics from job. Let us take a "Manager" is the job. He has a task and the positions that are inheriting from this job are "Sales- Manager" , "Finance-Manager". So as we are on same path the third object is nothing but "job" denoted with the object key C.

Let me explain you in detail , If we create a job "Manager" with required characteristics and assigned tasks, we can inherit the same characteristics for many positions. When we are creating many positions in one go , it will be quite useful as we don't have to maintain the characteristics or assign tasks to all the created positions and this significantly reduces the data entry time. When we create a job it gets registered in the job catalog. A job catalog is the list of jobs maintained for an enterprise.

The next object is P - used for employee who is tagged to a position. Most of the employee information is maintained in PA infotypes.

Cost Center object defined by its key 'K' is one of the important object which is a Finance/controlling object which is also maintained by controlling module consultants , and it relates either to the org unit or position. This Cost Center is the center or origin of costs.

Task object defined by 'T' is nothing but a task or the duties assigned to a particular employee.
Last but not the least  Work Center object i.e., object A specifies where the employee works.

So these are the important objects we should learn to work on sap hr. Though they seem to be confusing when you see them for the first time but once you can related between the concepts you can learn it in seconds. As per the layman's understanding I can keep these objects in one line as below.

" Mr. Anand (P) ,

Heartly congratulations as on we welcome you to our TCS (O) family.

You are now recruited as  HR Manager (S)[Manager is job(C) here ] of  XYZ account. Please report at Adibatla (A) on 7.03.2017."

This is how it works. The relationships are the most important parameter here. A more detail explanation of the relationships will be provided in the future articles.

Till then , have a great time!!
